We are currently a small publisher and one of the few UK publishers accepting submissions from unrepresented authors. We do not accept complete manuscripts, but we would like to hear from you if you are interested in working with us, and you think your book may interest us - please explore the website to see our current titles.
We are interested in literary, historical and general fiction, and new and exciting novels which may fall outside those genres.
Currently, we are only considering fiction titles. We will not publish children's books, poetry or books that fit neatly into the science fiction, fantasy or horror genres. Please also note that we can only consider works that have been finished at the time of submission.
If you are interested in contacting us, please email us (to firstname.lastname@example.org) a brief description of your work and why you think it should be published.
Please also attach the following to your email (Word, Pages or PDF):
1. A brief synopsis of the book
2. The first three chapters and last chapter
3. A proposal (see below)
The proposal should some information about you, why you wrote the novel and how it is different, exciting or new. You should include information on your intended audience, ideas on marketing and a summary of your position within the market (i.e. whether you have been published before, your relevant experience and qualifications, and any contacts you may have within the industry).
We generally find that less is more and your synopsis and proposal can each be completed on a side or two of A4.
We will try and write as soon as possible, but please bear with us! Current turnaround times may be up to two months. Please bear in mind that we receive many submissions every week and can only publish a limited number of titles every year, so please do not be disheartened by a rejection as in many cases we have to make difficult decisions.
All submissions are treated confidentially. An agreement by Blue Mark Books to read the submitted work is not an offer to publish and we reserve the right to reject any submission for any reason whatsoever.
If we wish to take any submission further, we will discuss a publishing plan and timescale with the author. If both parties are in agreement that the submission should be published, the author may be offered a contract which is fair to both parties.
By submitting any work the author warrants that: he or she is the sole author of the work submitted; that he or she is the owner of the copyright of the work submitted; that the work submitted is original to him or her, that it has not previously been published in any form anywhere in the world and that the work submitted is in no way whatever a violation or infringement of any existing copyright or licence, or existing publishing contract or agreement with any other party. Any contract offered will contain these warranties so if they are not met prior to submission, please do not submit your work as we will not be able to publish it. Any contract offered will also contain additional warranties in respect of the work submitted.
